    Grand design in a small table. Here, Josef Frank used turned spindles and playfully allowed spheres to become a decorative element reminiscent of a classic baroque table. Table 2126 was designed by Josef Frank for Svenskt Tenn in 1951 and was part of the furnishings in Josef and Anna Frank's home on Rindögatan in Stockholm. The table was exhibited in Josef Frank's Memorial Exhibition at the National Museum in 1968 but has not been in production since then. It was relaunched in conjunction with Svenskt Tenn's 100th anniversary in 2024.

    Josef Frank grew up in Vienna and studied architecture at Technische Hochschule (the Vienna University of Technology) in 1903 – 1908. In the 1920s he designed housing estates and large residential blocks built around common courtyards in a Vienna with severe housing shortages. In 1925, he founded the Haus & Garten interior firm together with architect colleague Oskar Wlach. Svenskt Tenn hired Josef Frank in 1934 and just a few years later he and Estrid Ericson made their international breakthrough. Although he was already 50 when he left the burgeoning Nazism in Vienna for Sweden, Frank is considered one of Sweden’s most important designers. Read more

  • Care instructions

    Svenskt Tenn’s furniture is made from wood that is varnished or coated. Clean with a soft cloth dampened with mild dish detergent or soapy water. Dry with a soft cloth. Do not expose the furniture to prolonged humidity or direct heat or use polish, oil or abrasive cleaners on the furniture.

    At first, don’t place objects such as vases, books and coasters on the table since this can lead to changes in colour of the surface. After that, avoid allowing objects to remain too long in the same place on the table since this mightlead to darkening of the wood. In addition, avoid exposing the furniture to major changes in temperature and humidity.

    Contact a furniture restorer if the coating or wood gets damaged, as it can get worse if not tended to.

    Elmroot & Mahogany

    Wood is renewable, reusable and bio- degradable. Svenskt Tenn has worked with wood since the 1930s and the material is also one of the most dominant in the company’s production today. But for wood to be a really good material from an environmental point of view, it should come from responsibly managed forests.

    All of Svenskt Tenn’s furniture suppliers and their wood suppliers are subject to the EU’s Timber Regulation, which has strict rules for the wood trade. This is to deal with the global problem of illegal logging and to counter trafficking in illegal timber and wooden goods within the EU.

    Röthlisberger was founded in 1928 as a small carpentry workshop in Gümligen, Switzerland. Today, it is much more than that: an interior supplier with its own engineering department and a high-quality cabinetmaker specialised in designer furniture. Here, they manufacture design classics that require great artisanry, including Josef Frank's Table 2126.
