Svenskt Tenn's placemats are available in several prints suitable for everyday use as well as for special occasions. The placemats are sold in a set of two. The backside is covered with grey flocked paper.

The lush Under Ekvatorn (Under the Equator) print is one of Josef Frank’s more colourful prints. With fantasy flowers that we almost recognize, but are uncertain that we do, we find that finely-tuned balance between dreams and reality that is so typical for Josef Frank’s designs. Josef Frank designed Under Ekvatorn in September 1941 shortly before his move to New York.

Svenskt Tenn developed this design using Josef Frank's print.

Josef Frank grew up in Vienna in an assimilated Jewish family and studied architecture at Konstgewerbeschule. Svenskt Tenn hired Josef Frank in 1934 and just a few years later he and Estrid Ericson made their international breakthrough. Although he was already 50 when he left the burgeoning Nazism in Vienna for Sweden, Frank is considered one of Sweden’s most important designers. Read More

  • Care instructions

The placemat cannot be used for plates and saucepans directly from the stove or oven. To clean the surface, wipe the placemat with a slightly damp cloth. Never rinse the placemat under running water, as the lamination is sensitive to moisture. Avoid contact with wet surfaces on the underside as the colour from the flocked paper can rub off.
