Estrid Ericson collected quotes and around 1930 she designed this matchbox cover with the words: “The world is a book and he who stays at home reads only one page.” probably originates from St. Augustine. Eighty percent of Svenskt Tenn’s collection consists of products that are of our own design. Josef Frank alone left behind 2,000 furniture sketches and about 160 textile designs. Sometimes Svenskt Tenn produces products based on models from the archive, which contains sketches and designs from both Josef Frank and Estrid Ericson.

  • Care instructions

Pewter is a soft material that requires careful treatment. We recommend using cotton gloves when handling pewter. Objects that are not being used can be stored in a plastic or felt bag to avoid scratching.

It is generally recommended to avoid using polish on pewter, since it can cause scratches. To remove fingerprints and other stains, rinse the pewter in warm water with a small amount of dish detergent. Dry with a soft cloth. For more advanced cleaning of pewter objects we recommend a professional restorer, for example, KA Johnsson in Stockholm.
