SVENSKT TENN EXHIBITS REFLECTIONS 04.06.2019 – 18.08.2019

Three spaces. Three significant events in Svenskt Tenn's 95-year old history. This summer, reflections of these events are shown here on Strandvägen 5. Contemporary interpretations of Svenskt Tenn's furnishing at the World exhibition in Paris 1937, Estrid Ericson's recognised table setting at Nybrokajen 1940 and the collaboration with Fornasetti, which began in 1946.

TABLE SETTING AT NYBROKAJEN

The seemingly simple table setting at Nybrokajen can be seen as a symbol of Estrid Ericson’s refined way to decorate tables. Here she presented several components designed by Josef Frank; a table cloth in the Mille Fleurs textile, pewter dinnerware, a table and chairs in white lacquered iron with rattan braiding. The table setting was fronted on the invitation to Svenskt Tenn's spring exhibition in 1940, where furniture and interior details from different parts of the world were in focus.

FORNASETTI IN SWEDEN

Svenskt Tenn has a long tradition of collaborating with renowned designers. One of the earliest examples was that between the company founder Estrid Ericson and the Italian painter, sculptor and designer Piero Fornasetti. They were friends and had great mutual respect for each other's creative work. The cooperation began in 1946 and eighteen years later, in November 1964, Fornasetti sent a letter to Estrid Ericson, describing her as a great source of inspiration.

In 2019, the exhibition "Inside Out, Outside In" is shown at Artipelag in Stockholm, with the entire spectrum of Fornasetti's creation.

RATTAN IN PARIS

Svenskt Tenn participated for the first time at the World exhibition in Paris 1937, and the duo Estrid Ericson and Josef Frank had their big international breakthrough. They showed a furnished porch for a sophisticated summer life, with various rattan furniture grouped around a fountain. The set was elegant, but at the same time comfortable and suited both everyday situations and festive occasions.
