Carlsten started collect playing cards as a boy, practicing different tricks in front of the mirror, dreaming of one day become a famous magician. Today, his design has become his way of performing. Stumbling across his old box of playing cards, he saw them in a different light, especially the ace of spades. According to Carlsten, the most beautiful card in the deck due to its historic connotations, inherent symbols and diverse aestethics.

    After five years as Acne’s art director, Daniel Carlsten decided to branch out on his own in 2009. Since then, he has done art direction and design for a wide circle of international clients and today his work is represented in the permanent collections of the Nationalmuseum in Stockholm and at the Röhsska Museum in Gothenburg.
