Chair 2238 Art nr. 107208

9,000 SEK (inkl. moms)

The rattan in the back rest is the finishing touch in Josef Frank’s chair 2238. Designed in 1957, it is now back in production. Like a jewel, the rattan lyre adorns the light 2238 mahogany chair. Possibly the last piece of furniture that Josef Frank designed, the frame with its four side rails and two cross rails provides the chair with stability and leads the eye up to the generous lyre back of double rattan tubes, hand crafted at Larsson Korgmakare.

  • Designer

Josef Frank grew up in Vienna and studied architecture at Konstgewerbeschule. In the 1920s he designed housing estates and large residential blocks built around common courtyards in a Vienna with severe housing shortages. In 1925 he started the Haus & Garten interior firm together with architect colleagues Oskar Wlach and Walther Sobotka. Svenskt Tenn hired Josef Frank in 1934 and just a few years later he and Estrid Ericson made their international breakthrough. Although he was already 50 when he left the burgeoning Nazism in Vienna for Sweden, Frank is considered one of Sweden’s most important designers. Read more

  • Care instructions

Svenskt Tenn’s furniture is made from wood that is varnished or coated. Clean with a soft cloth dampened with mild dish detergent or soapy water. Dry with a soft cloth. Do not expose the furniture to prolonged humidity or direct heat or use polish, oil or abrasive cleaners on the furniture. Also avoid exposing the furniture to large changes in temperature and humidity.

Contact a furniture restorer if the coating or wood gets damaged, as it can get worse if not tended to.
