The Swedish design and interior decoration firm Svenskt Tenn has been located at the same address – Strandvägen 5 in Stockholm – since 1927. Now begins an extensive redesign and extension of the store. During this, Svenskt Tenn will be residing at temporary premises in the former movie theater Astoria at Nybrogatan 15.
The British architectural firm HMKM has been contracted for the redesign and expansion of Svenskt Tenn’s store. The work has already begun and the store at Strandvägen closes on January 16th. On the 18th the temporary store will open, just around the corner at Astoria on Nybrogatan 15.
’’The time at Nybrogatan will be an exciting new chapter in the history of Swedish Tenn. The temporary premises differ in many ways from the store at Strandvägen, and we now take on the challenge to show our creativity and create recognition at Astoria”, said Thommy Bindefeld, Marketing Manager.
The interest in Svenskt Tenn is growing and more store space is needed. Offices and warehouse has already moved out of the premises and when the store opens again in September it will be about 60 percent larger.
HMKM’s assignment is to modernize the store and provide better opportunities to show both historical and contemporary products. The drawings contain some new solutions, although there is a clear reference to what the store looked like in Estrid Ericson’s, the founder of Svenskt Tenn, time.
